Well, guess what? We are starting, kids are doing a book report for reading, due on September 1st. They were a bit excited about getting started, and they both found a book here at home. Some Math skills, since my oldest has problems with basic math, but funny how well she can grasp Algebra. Personally I think Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division bore her to death. My youngest on the other hand does well in math. None the less, need to go back over a few things, before they get into their regular studies.
As for curriculum, we found this site, which offers a CD full of material, covering all forms of studies, from Kindergarten to 12th Grade! Best part is the program is fully interactive (meaning it can be accessed and used from the PC or PC's). You can read books, obtain Math, Science, Literature, English, Spelling, History and so on. The item is $3.00 US for a sample CD. Filled with just under 300 Megs of sample files. One important thing to remember is that there are limits to the sample CD, since it is just that... A SAMPLE and only 300 Megs of Data. The $100.00 fee for the actual CD, is in our humble opinion, a good price; compared to the other options we found. Also, if your adding the estimated cost of printer ink and paper, you will still save on the total cost. So for a Home School on a budget, this ROCKS!!! Now you may ask where is this interesting item located? I have an answer right HERE! This CD Covers

Now the actual CD has it's limitations, and the people that put the Home School Curricula on the CD are working on updates and improvements. One of the improvements needed is math for grades 7 through 12. In lea of this fact, you can check walmart.com or another store that carries educational software. Look for a CD set for basic to advanced mathematics, for grades 6 through 12 (some of these sets also have some Entry Level College Math - GET IT if available). I suggest buying the set if you can find it You should not be out more than $30.00 (+/- 10% to 20% depending on your geographical location and market area). |
